September 1-10th

To celebrate the 2018 September Palio di Asti and Feste Delle Sagre week, Villa Sampaguita is pleased to offer a complete tour package including accommodation at our beautiful bed and breakfast just outside Asti and tours of the Piedmont wine country including Barolo and Barbaresco, as well as Turin, sampling some of Italy’s finest wines and cuisine.

The package includes airport pick-up and drop off, accomodation at Villa Sampaguita, lunch and dinner at selected restaurants, tickets for the Palio, and a tour agenda designed to let you see some of the best attractions that this region of fabulous wines and food has to offer.

Sunday 2nd September

Palio di Asti


After breakfast we bring you into Asti for a guided tour of the old city followed by lunch at Pompa Magna restaurant. After lunch you watch
the spectacular medieval parade, through the old town and then take your seats for the heats and final of the Palio di Asti bareback horse race, first staged in 1273.

Monday 3rd September


The king of wines and the wine of kings

Leave at 9.30 am; first stop Erbaluna (organic) winery at La Morra, for wine tasting followed by lunch at Osterie Vignaiolo. Then drive around the valley to Barolo town and visit Borgogno winery for a cellar tasting tour, follwed by a tour of the Barolo wine area and visit Alba if time permits) and back to Villa Sampaguita for supper

Tuesday 4th September


Wine and the Land of the Saints

Leave at 9.30 am for Sacra Monte di Crea with first stop at Tenuta Tenaglio winery and then browsing the Sacred Mountain, light lunch on the mountain. Then over to Cocconato,(stop to shop at Conbipel factory outlet). Then over to the beautiful
Abbazia di Vezzolana, and an optional visit to the Basilica of Don Bosco

Dinner Angolo del Beato in Asti.

Wednesday 5th September


Italy’s Best Kept Secret


Leave around 9.30 am and drive to Turin, the old royal capital of Piedmont and Italy, with its baroque piazze and many palaces. First stop at the Superga, overlooking the Po river, Turin and the Alps. Your driver will take you to Eataly for food browsing and lunch and drop you in the centre of the old town for shopping or checking out the many museums and galleries in Turin.

Stop and visit EATALY food gallery on the way home for dinner.


Thursday 6th September


Barbaresco, Mango & truffle hunting

Leave at 9.30 am for the town of Barbaresco with its stunning views, and a visit to Marchesi di Gresy winery. Lunch at Rabaja restaurant with panoramic views of the Tanaro valley. Then a stunning drive through the Langhe hills via Mango over to Costigliole for a (white) truffle hunt at La Casa del Trifalau.

Supper at Villa Sampaguita. (bring your own truffles!)

Friday 7th September

Free Day

Free Day. You can putter around the woods at Villa Sampaguita, go into to Asti for shopping (market day), or we can arrange another trip for you by mini-bus or train (Turin or Genoa) for more exploration.

Lunch and dinner on your own.

Option for an afternoon cooking class at Villa Sampaguita.

Saturday 8th September

Cheese and Wine

Morning visit to Bra for a guided cheese tasting at Giolito Cheese Merchants, then over to Alba for lunch and browsing.

In the evening we accompany you to Asti for a wine tasting at Douja d’Or including Piatte d’Autore (chef’s special plate from one of the local restaurants).

Sunday 9th September

Asti Sagre

The World’s Biggest Restaurant

After breakfast we bring you into Asti to watch the colourful farmer’s parade, with floats depicting traditional Piedmont country life followed by
al fresco lunch at the Sagre food festival.

Time for browsing Asti’s shops and tasting wine at the Douja
d’Or wine festival.

Farewell dinner at Villa Sampaguita.

Monday 10th September


We transport you to the airport or train station.

Tour Prices: Please contact us for tour prices, we can accomodate up to a maximum of 14 people.

Of course you may stay at Villa Sampaguita during the festival week without taking the tour, and depending on space you may join selected parts. However we can only accept bookings for the entire period 1st to 10th September
